Keita Bates-Diop scored on a stick back with 2.8 seconds remaining to give Ohio State a hard-earned 64-63 win over No. 3 Purdue, ending the Boilermakers’ record 19-game winning streak. Bates-Diop led the Buckeyes with 18 points while Andre Wesson, who averages 2.2 ppg, finished with 13 points.
Purdue guard Dakota Mathias nailed a three with 16:03 remaining to give the Boilermakers a 36-33 lead. The Boilermakers took the game over the next six minutes as Carsen Edwards made a layup to cap a 20-6 run and give Purdue a 53-39 advantage with 10:15 to play.
Bates-Diop and Andre Wesson combined for 13 of the Buckeyes’ 23 points from there as they defended Purdue, turning them over and then grabbed a late lead at 62-60 on a Wesson three which lead to Bates-Diop’s heroics.
Carsen Edwards led all scorers with 28 points as he added six rebounds and three assists while netting 8-of-13 baskets, including four threes. Isaac Haas added 18 as only four Boilermakers scored.
No rest for the weary as the Boilermakers now go to Michigan State on Saturday while the Buckeyes host Iowa.
